The fifth edition of the Justice and Anticorruption Reforms Forum will be organised by the Legal Resources Centre from Moldova (LRCM) on 19 and 20 September 2023. The event is one of the most important platforms for professional debate and aims to identify the best reform solutions and improve the risks of ongoing reforms in the area of justice and anticorruption.
This year’s edition will focus on the main reforms currently being implemented – the external evaluation of judges and prosecutors, the reform of the Supreme Court of Justice, but also the strengthening of institutions responsible for fighting corruption.
The event will be addressed by key players in the justice sector, political representatives, civil society experts and development partners. The Forum will be opened by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, together with the US Ambassador to Moldova, Kent D. Logsdon, and the Head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau, Jānis Mažeiks.
The four main themes around which the Forum discussions will take place are:
– Judicial vetting and the Supreme Court of Justice reform.
– Investigation and effective sanctioning of corruption.
– Optimisation of the judicial map in the Republic of Moldova.
– The future of justice.
“Justice reform is one of the most important concerns of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, taking into account the country’s status as a candidate for EU accession, but also the pressing need for an efficient and integral justice system, which would allow the development of the country and improve the living conditions of its citizens. The Forum is a unique opportunity to discuss in a civilised and professional manner the progress of these reforms and how we can work together more effectively in certain areas in order to move forward on our European path. At the same time, it is a further opportunity to send clear messages to society that our reforms and commitments are irreversible,” stated Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.
During the Forum, before the views expressed by experts and officials, current data on the state of justice and the fight against corruption in the Republic of Moldova will be presented.
“This year, we set out to come up with innovative approaches. We will have an inspirational session on “The Future of Justice” where we will discuss with experts from abroad how we can integrate new technologies into the justice system, how we can interconnect existing platforms and even the influence of artificial intelligence on justice. All these topics, together with high quality speakers, will allow us not only to get a perspective on what’s going on in justice, but also to start discussions about the impact of technology on the rights of the judiciary and the self-administration of systems in a new era,” says the Executive Director of LRCM, Ilie Chirtoacă.
