The Legal Resources Centre from Moldova (LRCM) together with the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), with the financial support of the Soros Foundation Moldova, is organizing 10 joint trainings for judges, prosecutors and lawyers on recent changes in criminal procedure.

The training will last one day, from 9:00 to 17:00, and will be held in Chișinău, from 19 February to 19 March. The exact dates of the training are mentioned and can be selected in the registration form. The trainings are free of charge and the participants’ meals are covered by the LRCM.

Among the topics to be discussed in the training are:

  • Competence of the National Anticorruption Centre and specialised prosecutors’ offices.
  • Special investigative activity.
  • Access of the injured party to criminal investigation materials.
  • Audio/video recording of criminal investigation actions.
  • Communication with the parties and appeals at the criminal investigation
  • Preliminary hearing.
  • Hearing by teleconference.
  • Grounds of appeal against decisions of the courts of appeal.
  • Inadmissibility of appeals.
  • Public hearings at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ).
  • Jurisdiction of the SCJ to examine appeals against decisions of the courts of appeal.
  • Extraordinary remedies in criminal procedure.

The trainers of the training sessions are lawyers, prosecutors and judges who were part of the working group that contributed to the drafting of the proposals to amend the Criminal Procedure Code.

Judges and prosecutors are to register for training through the NIJ. Lawyers wishing to attend training are asked to complete this form as soon as possible and to select no more than 3 days on which they are available to attend training.

A lawyer may attend only one training. If the lawyer chooses more than one day, the LRCM will distribute the participants within the limit of available places (10 lawyers per training) and will inform the lawyers about the day of participation in the seminar. Registration will be closed as soon as a sufficient number of lawyers have confirmed participation in the training. Lawyers specialising in criminal matters, who have a good reputation, have priority.

Unfortunately, trainee lawyers are not eligible to participate in this training series, but they can follow the opportunities offered by the LRCM on the organisation’s website and on social media.

By completing the form and confirming registration, the lawyer undertakes to attend the seminar in full and, in the event of absence from the training, to reimburse the costs of training one person.

The agenda and exact location will be communicated after confirmation of participation. For more details, please contact us at victoria.mereuta@crjm.org or by phone on 022 843 601.

The training series is organised in the framework of the project “Safeguarding human rights through a more transparent and accountable criminal justice systemˮ, implemented by the LRCM with the financial support of the Soros Foundation Moldova. The views and opinions expressed at the event do not necessarily coincide with those of the Soros Foundation Moldova.
