Public lecture “National and international mechanisms to prevent and combat discrimination”

Discrimination is a current problem in the Republic of Moldova. The challenges faced by citizens in this regard include, but are not limited to unequal access to services and opportunities or discriminatory attitudes in society and the workplace. However, how well do students and young professionals understand what discrimination is and what forms it takes?

The persistence of discrimination issues in society is acute, with a particular focus on discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, age, disability or sexual orientation. To address these concerns in a comprehensive way, cooperation between all national actors is essential, including educating the younger generation on the principles of equality and social inclusion.

On 25 April, we invite students from the faculties of law, journalism, international relations, etc., as well as young professionals from all regions of the country to participate in a new #LRCM public lecture – “National and international mechanisms to prevent and combat discrimination”. The event will take place via the Zoom platform from 15:00 to 16:30 and will be held in Romanian with simultaneous translation into Russian.

The main topics to be discussed are:

  • the level of acceptance of different groups in the Republic of Moldova.
  • the criteria protected by national legislation in order to discourage discrimination.
  • the most important decisions of the Equality Council.
  • the existing mechanisms of protection against discrimination at national, regional and international levels.

The speaker who will help us understand all the nuances and aspects of the phenomenon of discrimination is Andrei Brighidin – Director of Development, Monitoring and Evaluation at the East Europe Foundation, former member of the Equality Council (2013-2024), full member on behalf of the Republic of Moldova at the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI).

The LRCM team encourages students and young professionals to explore more widely the concept of discrimination and ways to promote equality and social inclusion by participating in this public lecture. To register for the event please fill in the form: https://forms.office.com/e/fY8FVP0MUX

This event is organized within the project “Supporting the efforts to advance the protection of human rights”, implemented by the Legal Resources Centre from Moldova with the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
