Public lecture “Human Rights in Times of Distress”

Students from law, journalism, international relations and political science departments, as well as young professionals, are invited to participate in a new public lecture on human rights held by LRCM. The event will take place on 7 December 2023, from 15:00 to 16:45, via the Zoom platform, with discussions in English and simultaneous translation into Romanian.

International Human Rights Day is marked every year on 10 December. On this day, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted and proclaimed under the aegis of the United Nations (UN), the first global expression of human rights. It proclaimed that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. All human beings must enjoy the equal application and protection of their rights, which are universal, indivisible, inalienable, interdependent and interrelated.

This public lecture is a good opportunity to underline the urgency of respecting, promoting and defending human rights. Together with the LRCM team and Beatrix Ferenci, Head of UN Human Rights Office in Moldova, we will explain the essence of the concepts of human rights, the UN and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, address the importance of protecting human rights in both peace and war, and examine the role of international organisations and states in protecting human rights, especially during conflicts.

To register, please fill in this form.

This event is organised with the financial support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) in the framework of the project “Strengthening human rights standards in Moldovaˮ, implemented by the Legal Resources Centre from Moldova (LRCM). The opinions expressed are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the CFLI.
