Training for journalists – Turning Law to News: How to Expertly Convert Legal Data into Compelling Media Content (2)
The second training session, “Turning Law to News: How to Expertly Convert Legal Data into Compelling Media Content,” is open to journalists. It is a follow-up to the first training of this type that the LRCM offered in May 2024. The purpose of the event is to raise the level of professionalism when tackling topics pertaining to human rights, justice, and anti-corruption.
The training session will take place on October 8, 2024, between 10:00 – 15:00, in Chișinău. The training will include presentations with a focus on theoretical content, covering the following topics: developments regarding justice reform and the fight against corruption; the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union; freedom of expression of the media before the judiciary; practical guide for journalists on the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and the work of the Equality Council. The practical part of the training will include free discussions and specific examples of how legal language can be translated to the wider public, as consumers of news and journalistic materials.
At the end of the training, journalists will improve their ability to convey the essence of more complex legal topics using clear, simple, easily accessible words and expressions. Participants in the training will be guided by LRCM lawyers to navigate the details and nuances of legal topics in order to be able to explain and write about complicated processes in a way that is easy to understand.
This event is organised with the financial support of the Embassy of Finland in Bucharest in the framework of the project “Free Speech Watch: Researching legal challenges to freedom of expression and strengthening journalistic independence”, and with the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands within the project “Supporting the efforts to advance the protection of human rights”.
